Java has been my language of choice on UNIX, Mac OS, and Windows when Perl can't do the job. Here are some snippets which have been of use.

A Java applet to convert between Farenheit and Centegrade (Celcius). Especially useful when using thermometers not bought at home.

RandomFile returns the contents of a randomly-selected file in a specifed directory. Qualification by prefix and suffix is supported.

TodaysDate is a small Java handler that returns a text string of the form "Thursday 18 June 1998", as requested by a client.
