Burning Man

blinking man "I don't think people get many visceral experiences these days. Humans are made to have extreme experiences. They are landmarks in your life." -- Mark Pauline, Survival Research Laboratories

Sadly, we have become a culture of television, SUVs, and malls; it's depressing. At our peril we avoid searching out these extremes. For me my family and I the annual Burning Man event is what opens up our eyes, ears, and imaginations.

Welcome to my our Burning Man gallery! Here you'll see (and read about) the people, the art and music, and the community which rises from the dust and stays only in memory.

Here you'll find stories and photos of my our adventures at Black Rock City, the temporary autonomous zone in which Burning Man happens. It's more than you've heard or read about: infinitely more interesting, far less sordid. Over the years things have gone from a small group with a drive-by shooting range and homemade pyrotechnics to a city of more than 40,000 (in 2005). We have a saying, here in BRC: "Burning Man was better next year." Something to remember when you hear the whining of someone crowing about the glory days. The best years are the ones at which you join us!

You may visit my travelogue for the year you wish by selecting the ticket for that year. Pack that sunscreen and at least a gallon of water per person per day and dive right in!
