1997 Our Wedding Album: The Family Dinner

The evening after our wedding we celebrated with our close family. We hosted a small meal at our favorite restaurant, Ma Tante Sumi, on 18th Street near Castro (a location about three blocks away from our old apartment and our soon-to-be home).

Here's the menu for that gala event, a selection of our favorite choices from Sumi's seasonal menu. As with our wedding reception, we had choices for vegertarians, pescetarians, eaters of fowl, and eaters of red meat.

a won ton shell with a filling of vegetables

Appetizer

House Salad of mixed lettuces with a basil rice wine vinaigrette, or

Japanese Kabocha Pumpkin soup with a touch of star anise, or

Crispy Duck Confit with grilled fuyu persimmons on lettuces and frisee with orange vinaigrette

Main Course

Vegan Cassoulet of flagolet beans, sage, root vegetables and black olives with parsley-garlic crust, or

Pan-roasted Salmon with a teriyaki glaze, sesame spinach and ginger-nori rice, or

Oven-roasted Miso Marinated Chicken Breast with mashed potatoes and a touch of housemade kimchee, or

Garlic Marinated Grilled Beef Filet with shallot-parsley butter, wilted greens with pancetta, and blue cheese-leek potato gratin

Wine

Domain Michel Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, 1995 - aromatic rich ripe cherry, complex but smooth black cherry and plumb flavors

La Crema Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast, 1995 - lime-citrus flavors marry with creamy peach and pear and a hint of vanilla spice

Dessert

Ginger Crème Brulee with sesame cookie, or

Chocolate Pate with oranges and Grand Marnier sauce, or

Roasted Japanese Kabocha Pumpkin Cheesecake with persimmon coulis
