The Dollhouse: Counter-Offer Letter

Friday 26 June 1998

Dear Ms. C-----,

Rosie and I are pleased to respond to your counter-offer with a resounding YES! We're thrilled to have such a wonderful cottage as the starting point for our new family.

I spent much of last night tossing and turning, not because you've received another offer, but by the wording of that offer. Building a garage anywhere near the cottage would horribly change its esthetic sensibilities. The front garden would be destroyed, the gate would have to go, and the house would be hidden by a modern boxy structure. That's a terrible way to respect and cherish such a tiny bit of San Francisco's history.

We've fallen in love with your home, with the heritage and esthetics of a place from the beginning of this century, and we're looking forward to the stewardship responsibilities that come with it. Thank you so very much.

With fondest wishes,

Rose Shoshanna and Michael Samuel Sattler
