1995 Eivissa (Ibiza): Roosters are crowing their morning greetings

Wednesday 27 Sept 1995

0230 Whoops! I'm up a little early. Back to sleep.

Djamal's bedroom door

0930 Ahhhhh, that's better. More sleep, breakfast with a screaming baby, and into town. The most notable early-morning issue is the weather: it's changed back into the usual sunny, warm, inviting Eivissa. Because of this more people are on the streets this morning than I saw all day yesterday. (I put several layers of clothing into the truck in case Mother Nature was just playing a game with me.) 1995 Eivissa (Ibiza): Roosters are crowing their morning greetings.

On my way into town on the camino viejo I meet up with three of Mayra's school-friends. They want to see me take a picture and develop it right there on my computer. Here are the results.

I'm on my way to Benirràs on foot again. Grapes. No apples. Another honkin' big spider. I made it in one and three-quarter hours.

The time has come for my almost-weekly call to the USA. I want to hear one particular friendly voice. I call at 2015, 1215 in San Francisco. ("Is this the party to whom I am speaking?" - Lily Tomlin) I get the right person, Kathryn, but today everyone is in her office and it's difficult to converse. Usually things are calm during the lunch hour, which is why I timed my call just so. Health and welfare queries. Verbal hugs. Replacement computer status update: they've got the money, but the sales droid who was handling it is on vacation this week. My frantic query: did it get shipped or not!?! Reassuring answer: she'll find out.

Just as I'm telling Daniel about the call, the phone rings. The San Francisco support team leader says: no concrete answer so far; only the sales droid's clueless assistant unit is in the office. Will get disposition of hardware later. And thanks for calling; sorry office was such a zoo.

I hang up the phone and am called to a wonderful dinner of Indian cheese balls over rice.
